Bookings for Holidays are up; it’s Advised to Book Early for Lake Lodging

Big Bear Lake, Calif./ November 8, 2010 – Big Bear Lake Resort Association (BBLRA) reported today its central reservations system is up 46 percent for advanced bookings for the upcoming holiday season. This is an indicator people are booking one or two months out, rather than last minute planning. Anyone who wants to experience a white Christmas close to home is advised to book now, especially to get the best choices for specific amenities.

“Indoor Jacuzzis, pool tables, wood-burning fireplaces, close proximity to the ski resorts, wireless Internet and pet friendly are some of the more popular choices for lodging amenities. If any or all of these are important to you, then I suggest making reservations now, especially for Christmas and New Years,” said Rick Shoup, President and CEO for Big Bear Lake Resort Association. “Also, the law of economics could play a factor. Pricing could increase based on supply and demand. The people who plan in advance will definitely benefit.”

There are currently 1,100 units available through BBLRA Central Reservations, but that number will become more limited as it gets closer to Christmas. The most affordable units are always the first to go for the holiday season, which is why it is recommended to book now to avoid paying higher premiums with limited inventory the week of Christmas and New Years.

Both Snow Summit and Bear Mountain hope to have most lifts open by Christmas. Also, plenty of fun in the snow awaits at Big Bear Snowplay and Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain, where guests can slide down the slopes on an inner tube! Other winter related activities include snowshoeing, off-road excursions, horseback riding and holiday shopping. In fact, Big Bear Village is merry and bright with festivities, lots of great gifts for the entire family and Santa Claus will be spreading good cheer.

“Play outside in the snow all day, and in the evening settle in to celebrate the holidays with family and friends in a cozy lodge,” added Shoup.

The best part about Big Bear is it’s just a short drive to get to the snow. To make reservations for the holiday season call 800-424-4232 or visit www.BigBear.com to make your white Christmas dreams come true.
