The San Bernardino National Forest Association (SBNFA) and the Big Bear Discovery Center are pleased to announced its second annual fund raiser, Big Bear Mountain Music Festival, “Bluegrass, Bluejeans and Beyond”, scheduled Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Big Bear Discovery Center; 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. In keeping with our mission, the event will be produced in living green as a venue, fund raising purpose and featured music. This year’s event will be awash in green with the San Bernardino National Forest (SBNF), as its backdrop and home to Forest Aid, a restoration partnership of the SBNFA, U.S. Forest Service and LA-based TreePeople, restoring the burn areas from the 2003 and 2007 wildfires. Festival proceeds will benefit Forest Aid 2010 where the focus will be in the Big Bear Valley restoring the areas surrounding the Butler I & II wildfires.
Music from some of the best Irish roots bands such as The Black Irish, Sligo Rags (a 2008 favorite), and local Big Bear band, Wake the Bard. Other bands joining their green partners on the Discovery Center Amphitheater stage will be Scott Gates, Nathan McEuen and Chuck Hailes; Silverado Bluegrass; last year’s breakout band of SBNF forest rangers, The Ramblin’ Rangers; and a tribute to the “Man in Black”. After all, green is the new black; to that end, this year’s event will feature two shows; a Johnny Cash Bluegrass Tribute and the Johnny Cash Vegas Tribute to the “Man in Black” show; closing the fund raiser with his legendary hits and special tribute guests. Please visit SBNFA.org for complete artist schedule.

We’re pleased to welcome The Lighthouse Project as a nonprofit partner. The SBNFA will donate a portion of the event proceeds to their Peace Gardens project in the Bear Valley elementary schools. Through this program, local school children, many who believe food comes from cans, will be able to experience growing their own fruits and vegetables, donate their harvest to local families while growing big smiles.
