You're in luck! The Office of Emergency Services sent up 6 CAlFire Crews to clear the downed trees and debris for the snow plows. Plus, a convoy made it up here last night with gas, food and Red Cross supplies.

My family and I left yesterday and made it up the mountain only to have HWY 18 closed. I realize nothing could be done about this. We stayed in a Hotel (like the rest of the people trying to get up) because Caltrans first told us the road would be open at 10Pm. I called Caltrans in the morning and the 18 was still closed at Big Bear Dam. Yet, the voice recording stated that there was detour's available. But it did not tell us what detour to take. We where then advised by numerous people that we could take the 15 to the 138. After sitting on the 138 for 2 hours someone tells us this is incorrect. We then find a route using the back road through Lucerne Valley. Again, we sit for another 2 hours calling Caltrans multiple times to hear the same recording and then to be told by people coming down the mountain that only residents where aloud to go up. We spent a total of 26 frustrating hours for nothing. I realize that you can not control the weather but it would suggest that when the recording says there is a detour that if would tell you what it is. Also, if a mountain is closed signs should be posted on the bottom of the mountain and freeway exits. This would save people time and probably unnecessary accidents that could be prevented . Also, if there was an options to speak with a live person at caltrans or anywhere else. I feel like I programmed my cell phone with the Caltrans number for nothing.

It's not us, Caltrans is doing the best they can to get the roads open. Right now you can get up the back way through Lucerne Valley on HWY 18. Let us know if you need any more info. Check local directory http://www.bigbear.us.
UPDATE: The Office of Emergency Services is sending 6 CalFire Crews to Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City. They will help clear downed tree limbs and debris so the snowplows can get through.
