Big Bear History Clifford Lynn Ski Area

This is an article written about the Clifford Lynn Ski Resort, on eof the first snow play area in Big Bear Lake CA

Scenic chair lift rides may be enjoyed at Clifford Lynn ski Area on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. 

The chair lift is at a 7,000-foot elevation, is 3,000 feet long, and has a 700-foot rise.  The maximum height from the ground is 28 feet.  Lift capacity is 250 people per hour.    

In the Ski season the chair lift serves three main runs and a snow bowl at the top.  The snow bowl has a 700-foot rope tow with a 250-foot rise.  The three main runs range from three-fourths mile to a mile long with a 700 foot rise, and four runs branch off with a 900 foot rope tow, with 300 foot rise in this area.

Also available for the skiers is a sling lift at a 7,300-foot elevations, 1,700 feet long, with a 400-foot rise.  The capacity 150 per hour, and one rope tow in this area is 800 feet ling, with a 250-foot rise.  This area is a large bowl shaped side hill, all cleared and is good easy skiing – not too steep, it is a place where the entire family can have plenty of fun, off by itself about a ten minute hike from the lower terminal of the chair lift.

WINTER SCHEDULE:         All equipment operates daily, subject to snow and skiing conditions.  Hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SUMMER SCHEDULE:       Chair lift operates Saturdays, Sundays and all holidays.  Hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Located just north of the village area.  Watch for signs.

Snow Summit Opens Snowboarding and Skiing

Big Bear Lake CA – Snow Summit (MAP) will open tomorrow, Saturday, November 13th. The have been laying a base of snow for several days. The temperatures are expected to be cold over night, through Thanksgiving.

Miracle Mile and Bear Bottom beginner area will be the first areas accessable. Snow Summit will open chairs 1 and 8. There will be a few terrain park features.

Tomorrow’s lift hours are 8:30am to 4:00pm and ticket windows will open at 8:00am. Early Season All Day Tickets Rates: Adult $40, Young Adult $35 and Child $15; Half Day Tickets: Adult $35, Young Adult $30 and Child $10

Here are our top suggestions if you are coming to Big Bear this weekend;

Snow Rentals – we love Goldsnith’s Board and Ski House, best fit and best equipemnt and great prices.
Vacation Rentals – This website has moderatelty priced resort cabins and vacation homes. Their service is the best.
Restaurants – Use our restaurant link for the dinning guide for the extended Big Bear area. We like Asian food and can highly recommend Himalayan Restaurant in the Village.
Coffee – If you want espresso go to either Starbucks in the Von’s parking lot or the CopperQ (MAP) in the Village

Southern California Superpipe – Big Bear Lake

(Big Bear Lake, CA – February 11, 2010) – Bear Mountain is offering a dose of the Olympic Spirit as they unveil the only Superpipe available in Southern California. This 18-feet high, 580-feet long and 65-foot wide competition-class pipe is now open to all skiers and snowboarders who visit Bear Mountain. In addition to the opening of this massive pipe, Bear Mountain’s Park is getting a serious facelift as the park development crew makes use of more than five feet of fresh snow to build a variety of great new features. 

“Bear Mountain’s Superpipe is a big attraction, drawing snowboarders and skiers from all over the region who want to feel what it’s like to ride a pipe just like the USA Olympic Team,” said Chris Riddle, Director of Marketing for Big Bear Mountain Resorts. “This impressive feature gives seasoned riders a chance to channel their inner-Olympian and spectators an up close look at an X-Games-worthy pipe. If you aren’t quite ready for the Superpipe, but you want the experience, we also have a mini-pipe for the more intermediate level riders.”

Snow Forecast for Southern California Mountain Resorts

Big Bear Lake CA; A winter advisory remains in effect until 10:00 AM this morning. Winds may gust to 35 mph. Our overnight snowfall was eight inches and another foot of accumulation is possible. Road conditions are R2, if you’re vehicle is not 4 wheel drive, you’ll need to chain up.

Snow conditions are the best -Today is a Blue Bird Powder Day! The Resorts report eight inches off perfect powder on a huge base of snow. It doesn’t get any better than this. Come and shred the Southern California Mountains. We have better snow then the Vancouver Olympics.

Besides carrying chains in your vehicle, be sure to have plenty of water, food and warm clothing. Although the weather will be gorgeous this weekend, road conditions can cause unforeseeable events. Bring suntan lotion and sunglasses after today’s storm passes through.

Weather Forecast for Big Bear City: A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR AREAS ABOVE 4000 FEET IN THE SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY DESERTS UNTIL 10 AM PST THIS MORNING.

TIMING…WIDESPREAD SHOWERS WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE MORNING BEFORE DECREASING IN THE AFTERNOON.

SNOW LEVELS…4000 TO 4500 FEET.
TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…3 TO 5 INCHES AROUND 4500 FEET WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE IN THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS.

IMPACTS…TRAVEL WILL BE DIFFICULT ON INTERSTATE 15 BETWEEN BAKER AND THE NEVADA STATE LINE. TRAVEL MAY BECOME IMPOSSIBLE ON UNTREATED MOUNTAIN ROADS.

WINDS…SIGNIFICANT WINDS ARE NOT EXPECTED. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES…AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.

Snow Conditions

Both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are experiencing epic conditions. The last storm increase the snow base to 48-84 inches of machine groomed packed powder. Tonights storm is expected to deliver six inches of fresh powder. Locals are saying that this is the best snow base they’ve seen since the late 60′s.

Road Conditions:
HWY 330: San Bernardino to Running Springs Open to traffic R-2
HWY 18: Running Springs to Big Bear Open to traffic R-2
HWY 38: Mentone to Big Bear Open to traffic R-2
HWY 18: Big Bear to Lucerne Open to traffic R-2

Weather;
Today: A 30 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 41. South wind between 5 and 10 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: Snow showers likely, mainly before 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 23. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 10am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW SHOWERS WILL END WEDNESDAY MORNING WITH SNOW LEVELS AROUND 5000 FEET. 4 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED ABOVE 6000 FEET IN THE SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS.
