Best Snowboard and Ski Rentals in Big Bear

Not everyone has their own equipment and there are several places to rent what you need boards or skis for the day. Both Resorts (Bear Mountain and Snow Summit) have a place for equipment rental, but it is a bit more expensive than other places around the Valley. If you simply need jackets, gloves etc., you may want to check around the local thrift stores for great deals.

Our favorite rental store is Goldsmith’s Board House in Big Bear Lake. They were the first rental company to open in Big Bear. It is a family owned and operated business, started by Fred and Linda Goldsmith in 1987. The Goldsmiths have been Big Bear residents since 1948. Fred was a manager and ski instructor for twenty years.

Their daughter, Danielle, was among the first group of snowboarders in the Valley. After representing Sims Snowboards both nationally and internationally, Danielle started the Boardhouse, a high end retail snowboard clothing outlet, taking over part of her parents store. She has now inherited the family business and continues to work with her parents, providing excellent service with her deep product knowledge.

Snowboard, Boots & Bindings rental is $22 per day. They also have high performance packages for $30 per day. If you are a skier; skis, boots and poles are $17.50 a day and they have a high performance package at $30 per day. We recommend you pay the extra $1.00 and get an accidental damage waiver. Goldsmith’s rents shaped skis and the brands include Atomic, K2, Salomon, Rossignol and Dynastar.

Besides the packages, Golsmith’s also rent safety equipment, snowshoes, cross country skis and clothing. Click here for a 10% discount coupon.

  1. For beginners I guess it would be better to at least rent ski equipments first before actually buying one. Ski equipments are a bit expensive so hit ski rentals first before buying one for your self.
