Big Bear Lake -Storm Updates

Ice Blown by Strong Winds

  • Highway 18 (through Lucerne Valley) is now OPEN to all traffic. R-3 chain restrictions remain in effect, which means chains are required on all vehicles – NO EXCEPTIONS. Caltrans reports delays could take up to 3 or 4 hours.
  • The 911 emergency number is not working throughout Big Bear valley, especially in the Fawnskin area. If there is an emergency and 911 is not working call the agency directly. The phone numbers are as follows…
    • Big Bear Sheriff Department : 909-866-0100
    • Fire Department/Big Bear City & Sugarloaf: 909-585-2362
    • Fire Department/ Big Bear Lake: 909-866-2362
    • Fire Department/Fawnskin: 909-866-4878
    • California Highway: 909-867-2791
  • Please note most local calls and most cell phone calls are working; however there are some areas that are spotty, especially with landlines in Big Bear Valley calling out off the mountain.
  • The American Red Cross, California Highway Patrol (CHP), San Bernardino Sheriff Department (SBSD) and Caltrans has teamed up in a united effort to get emergency supplies, fuel and water to Big Bear Lake. Yesterday the American Red Cross set up a shelter in Big Bear at the Big Bear Middle School for Big Bear residents without power and stranded visitors. The convoy plans to travel up Hwy. 18 (through running Springs).
  • The emergency convoy is bringing up gasoline trucks for gas stations that are low on gas. The estimated time the emergency convoy is expected to arrive in Big Bear is 5 p.m.
