Athletics
The athletics of the Big Bear High School show a different array of sports than most any school in Southern California. The winter snows provide us with all the thrills of a toboggan ride of a “spill” on skis. The past year of big snows has fulfilled our greatest dreams of “Winter Sports.”
Football, basketball, baseball, and swimming supplemented the snow sports when the weather permitted. The competition in each of these games, while it did not go beyond our own school, gave an added incentive to our physical education.
Who knows but that as time goes on, these small games among ourselves may develop into real athletic teams.
Snows
The year of 1931-1932 will long be remembered by the inhabitants of Big Bear Valley as the “year of the big snows.” This year we have had more than the usual amount of precipitation, in fact, almost enough to satisfy the expectations and desires of people who feel that the life of our community depends on good winters.
As the year is now progressing toward spring and summer, Big Bear Lake has a large number of small streams flowing into it, so that each day sees a new rise on the water level. This is a hopeful sign, and, with the all ready natural beauty of our mountains, should mean a record year for Big Bear.
Maybe we are looking forward to the coming year with a good deal of optimism, but its only an expression of our confidence.
