Hiking is becoming more attractive. It is still hard to drive out into the back roads on the south side of the Valley, Holcomb Valley has the least amount of snow. The Alpine Petal Path starts at the north side of Stanfield Cutoff, across from North Shore Elementary School, and parallels the lake for several miles. It’s a quick hike and good for pictures. Early morning is peaceful, you can watch huge white pelicans land and take off, along with ducks and seagulls.

The Joshua Trees should be blossoming soon. A great place to see them is Cactus Flats. Head down highway 18 toward the Lucerne Valley. Once you clear all of the hairpin turns, you’ll see signs for Cactus Flats. It’s great off-roading. Cactus Flats is at a lower altitude and the snow clears out sooner. There are several old mining shafts in the area.
Baldwin Lake Stables offers horseback riding out in Baldwin Lake. This is a wonderful time of year to head out on the trails. The weather is perfect for an afternoon outing.
No matter what you decide to do up in the mountains, remember to bring suntan lotion and drink plenty of water. Since we’re at 7,000 feet B vitamins can help with the altitude.

Welcome to Snow Summit
