The Big Bear Lake Discovery Center is a child and pet friendly environment. It was established 10 years ago for education and information by the San Bernardino National Forest Service. It’s a great place to pick up maps for mountain biking, hiking and camping. You can also purchase Adventure Passes and permits for campfires and woodcutting.

The Discovery Center conducts group tours including canoeing, nature walks, mining tours, eagle tours and in the winter, back country snowshoeing tours.

They sponsor a summer “Music in the Mountains” series. The profits benefit their forest restoration program.

Visits to the Center are fun for the whole family. There are wildlife displays, a gift shop and a snack bar. The gift shop carries maps, field guides, books on outdoor activities, interactive games, toys and Smokey products. The café has espresso, sandwiches, soups, salads and snacks.

This video will give you a quick tour of the property.
