Snowshoe Tours at The Discovery Center
December 26, & 27, 2009 – 9:00am

Come celebrate our winter wonderland by playing in it! The Discovery Center is offering guided snowshoe tours this winter for visitors and residents to explore scenic areas around Big Bear Lake. A naturalist will lead you through the forest where you will learn about winter ecology and natural history of the Big Bear Valley. Tour is suitable for both beginners and experienced enthusiasts. Meet at the Big Bear Discovery Center. Snowshoes and additional transportation are provided. Rate: Adults: $35, Children (8-12): $25 Dates: Saturdays 9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm, Sundays 9am-12pm; December 19 through March 7. The Nutcracker Ballet at the PAC
December 28, 2009 – 7:00pm

The Arts Council of Big Bear Valley and the Big Bear Performing Arts Center Foundation will be co-sponsoring three very special Christmas performances of “The Nutcracker Ballet” at the Big Bear Performing Arts Center. “Nutcracker” features the Maple Youth Ballet under the directorial guidance of veteran ballet choreographer Charles Maple. Maple is a former soloist with the American Ballet Theatre, an award winning choreographer, teacher and the Artistic Director of the Maple Conservatory of Dance in Irvine. Performances are will be held in Big Bear, Monday, December 28, at 7 PM and on Tuesday, December 29 at 2 PM and 7 PM. Tickets prices are $28 for adults, $22 for Children (12 and under) and $22 for Seniors (65 and older) with a $1 ticket processing fee for each ticket purchased. New Years Eve Torch Light Parade and Party After a terrific day on the slopes on New Year’s Eve, guests will be treated to a torchlight parade (beginning at 7:00 p.m.), which will serpentine down Log Chute run at Snow Summit.  The Resorts pick up a fresh coat snow last night. Snow is continuing to fall, but not much more is expected. The conditions are perfect for a day on the slopes!

HWY 330 -CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM 2.5 MI EAST OF SAN BERNARDINO TO THE JCT OF SR 18 IN RUNNING SPRINGS.

Hwy 18 -1-WAY CONTROLLED TRAFFIC AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS FROM THE JCT OF SR 138 TO 0.6 MI SOUTH OF SANTA’S VILLAGE FROM 0800 HRS TO 1700 HRS MONDAY THRU WEDNESDAY THRU 12/23/09 – DUE TO CONSTRUCTION.

CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM 4.4 MI EAST OF THE JCT OF SR 189 TO THE SAN BERNARDINO NATIONAL FOREST.

HWY 38 -CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM ANGELUS OAKS TO THE BIG BEAR DAM.

SHOWERS ASSOCIATED WITH A PACIFIC COLD FRONT WILL MOVE EASTWARD ACROSS THE AREA WITH RAINFALL UP TO ONE QUARTER INCH POSSIBLE. THE SNOW LEVEL IN THE SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY MOUNTAINS WILL LOWER TO AROUND 4500 TO 5000 FEET WITH ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE INCH OR LESS POSSIBLE AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

The Resorts are enjoying a packed powder base of 18 to 36 inches, with all lifts and all runs open. Mid-day temperatures are hovering around 45 degrees, keeping the snow conditions firm and gripable. The weather will remain moderate all week, making Big Bear Lake one of the closet and best choices for the holidays.

This video was shot on a blue bird powder day. Snow Summit had received 17 inches of snow the night before. This video was shot by a snowboarder going down the Miracle Mile run. This video showcases blue skies and excellent conditions.

Fairy & Fantasy Fashion Show and Tea
December 19, 2009 – 1:00pm to 3:00pm

The Big Bear Valley Renaissance Society is presenting the Fairy & Fantasy Fashion Show and Tea on Saturday on Dec. 19th from 1pm to 3pm at The Vintage on the Lake. There will be a full tea served and the fairy fashions will be presented by Victorian Designs by Lily and Lady Blackrose. There will also be some fairy vendors there…to do some Christmas shopping!! Tickets are available by calling 909-237-0448. There are general admission $20 and V.I.P. seating for $25. V.I.P. seating is limited, so get your tickets early! Remember, this event is a production of the Big Bear Valley Renaissance Society, Inc., a 501 (c) 3 non- profit for education. All profits go to children and teachers for scholarships and educational endeavors.

Christmas on the Boardwalk
